In Memory

Gary Meyers

Gary Meyers

Gary passed away on April 19, 2016 at home in Hobart Tasmania after about a 4 year struggle with prostate cancer.  Gary had many friends among our classmates, even though most of us have not seen him since he moved to Australia.  He will be among our classmate "Angel base" in heaven.  Rest in peace Gary you will surely be missed by your family and classmates.

Gary passed away quietly at his home in Hobart Tasmania on the 19th of April surrounded by his family and friends after a four year bout with prostate cancer. I had known Gary since elementary school and we were best friends and we stayed in close contact over these many years. My wife Laurie and I were fortunate enough to see Gary on many occasions and traveled with Gary and his family on many trips to Australia and the US. Gary was a brilliant oceanographer and was quite famous. He was one of the most intelligent people I have ever met, but was at the same time just a humble and nice guy. My wife and I will miss Gary but he will not be forgotten. His friend, Jerry Bailey

His passing is just a reminder of how lucky we all were in the class of '59, memories flood back to me and I am thankful to still be able to remember alot of them.  Parties at Gary's house are very memorable.  We danced and once and a while Gary's Mom would shut the lights out and we quickly kissed the one we were dancing with, well at least I did. RIP my friend

What can I say about a friend who would let me ride on his shoulders from the parking lot down to the sand at Huntington Beach?  A friend who was able to make chemistry understandable to me when the teacher could not?  Gary was one of the nicest, smartest and most humble people I have ever met.  Rest in Peace My Dear Friend.
