In Memory

Duke T. Nomura

I am sad to inform you that our friend and classmate, Duke Nomura, passed away 4 months ago after a long

illness in the hospital.  Duke's mother started M's flowers in Montebello and Duke started Commerce Flowers and eventually took over both.  I'm sure most of us has at one time received or ordered bouquets or coursages from M's.  Duke was a friend to everyone and will be deeply missed.  He also had a beautiful voice and sang at our 25 year reunion.

I am so sorry to hear of Duke's passing.  I have been friends with the Nomura's since the 4th grade.  His brother Rod was my best friend but Duke was a wonderful guy.  I will miss Duke as I miss Rod.

My wife (Judith McLaughlin class '62) were very close to the Nomura family. They supplied us with flowers for our dates our wedding and our daughters wedding. We were truly saddened to hear about Dukes passing.

I remember their flower shop so well.  They did the flowers for my wedding and the thing I actually remember the most about my wedding is how absolutely beautiful they were.  My bouquet was literally dripping with white orchids and roses and the altar was truly a showpiece.  What artists the Normura family were!  And how lucky I am to have such a lovely memory created by such a creative family!  My mother knew Duke's mother personally   and asked her to match the bridesmaids dresses with blue delphiniums, which she did to perfection.  I am sure Duke continued the tradition.

My mother and Duke's mother were good friends when they attended Garfield High School so our family friendship goes back a long, long way.  Duke and I, too were good friends at Montebello High School.  I have great memories of fishing with Duke and having him beat my --- at the pool table!  Besides being a friend he and his family always took care of all of our flower needs in a fabulous manner.

I was truly saddened by the notice of his passing.  Much love to his remaining sister Ann, brother Jay and their families.

I was very sad when I heard of Duke's passing.  Not only were we friends, but our families go back many years.  My uncle and Duke's family were friends.  During WWII my uncle watched ouver his families interests.  Sorry not sure of the details, everyone no longer here.  We bought flowers from both places.  Whether bougquetss for holidays, crosages we always visited M's Flowers.  They made the flower arrangements for my first wedding and they were beautiful, also very unique.  My condolences to Duke's family.  May he rest in peace and may his memory be a blessing.
