so sorry to hear this .... I was a bridesmaid inJohnny and Darlenes wedding many moons ago and always considered you a good friend. Many memories with you and Tony Corey in high school and many visits after your 2 boys were born. RIP, Johnny. XO Joanie Casanova Ward
Johnny and I were close. We lived right across Poplar Ave. from each other. We dug forts in vacant lots, played pirates in the river bed, chased rabbits and caught horned toads. His dad took us fishing. His beautiful sister, Ginger Rogers Allen was a Montebello cheer leader. Later Johhny and I worked on our cars, chased girls and drank too much beer. Little Johnny loved to pick a fight with the biggest guy at a party, presumably to compensate for his size complex.
I lost touch with him in the 1960s. Heard he was a logger in Oregon. Does anyone know what he did with his life, if he was married, had kids, etc.?
I went to school with a Bill Allen and wondered if they are related? I first lived in the First Street apartments near Fremont Elementary and met Larry Newsome, '59 (deceased) who lived on Second Street near the Ralstons. - Don Travis MHS '57 married to Nora Brodrick Travis MHS '60
I remember Johnny Allen as always having that cool look in his blue Levi's, white 'T' shirt and black loafer shoes. He was not afraid to take on anyone who threatened him or his close friends.. . . one of the many good guys at our '59 Montebello High school.
I remember Johnny very well, and yes, he was one of the “cool guys” to say the least. He always had a nice car, and was always ready to fight. He didn’t care about the size of the other guy or if he was right or wrong, that was just John. He was a fun guy and was liked by everybody. I remember meeting his parents and his very pretty sister, and they were nice people. After graduating from school in 1959, I don’t recall ever seeing John again. I hope he had a happy life, and I’m sorry that he passed. R.I.P John!
It is sad that so often it takes the death of a friend to bring back fond memories. As Fred Ralston mentioned, the good 'ol days of building forts in vacant lots, catching frogs in the river and just hanging out at the houses of friends made the neighborhood where many of us grew up The Best! I'm truly sorry that I lost contact with Johnny in our later years; we had many great times. RIP my dear friend.
Johnny Allen, Rest In Peace. We had some really good times in our day. Are paths parted shortly after high school, but the memories still remain. I for one didn't realize at the time how lucky we were to have come of age in the 50's. Till we meet again my friend! Bob Risen
