FRED SHELDON JR.,  1923-2019
TEACHING STAFF, MONTEBELLO USD,  EARLY 1950’S TO MID 1990’S.

Taught Industrial Arts, Mechanical Drawing and Math and was a Sports Coach at Eastmont JH and Montebello HS;  he also helped set up the Drivers Ed program for the MUSD.  Fred was a veteran of WW II serving in the Army Air Force.  After the war he studied at USC and graduated with an education administration credential.

Fred passed on March 26,  quietly fading away at the age of 96 at his retirement home in San Clemente according to Kathleen, Fred’s wife of 56 years and mother of their nine children.  Fred lived throughout life with no serious illnesses and appeared relatively healthy and fit as we visited in the last few years.  Fred was a paternal uncle of my wife Betty (Sheldon) Priebe,  MSHS 1963.

Of note: Fred was lifetime friends with Earl D. Ody, Boys Dean at MHS in 1959.  Dean Ody was actually a degreed Aeronautical Engineer and,  during WW II,  a decorated Ace fighter pilot in the AAF flying an amazing 62 sorties in a Lockheed P-38 Lightning.  Fred was in contact with Earl as late as 2004 via a letter from him that also revealed a bit of his flying career along with a picture of himself in his P-38 that was lettered “BarFly”;  this picture can be found on the W W Web.
