Douglas Coker VIEW PROFILE

Douglas Coker

Douglas Coker lost his battle today November 11, 2020.  I will remember him for his kindness and his humor. He will join his wife Sue  in Heaven.  Our heavenly reunion has gotten another member.  He will be missed by his family and all his classmates.  May he rest in peace.

6 1/2 decades Doug & I were friends starting when he was 14 and was introduced to me by his sister, Hazel, who at the time was a classmate of mine. We were in Montebello DeMolay together and received some of their highest awards, one of which was just annually celebrated, a couple days before our Lord wanted Doug with Him, and Sue with whom we were also very close. My daughters thought of Doug as a second Dad and was strengthened by all our times together at USC football games including my eldest. My youngest worked for years with Doug & Sue at Koppl Company. With the birth of Hazel's first daughter, I became "Uncle Don" and so Doug, from my family viewpoint, became "Uncle Doug" and to that was added "Uncle George Schnurle" a story that would take up too much space. We had LARams season tickets together as well as 40 years of plays attended at LaMIrada Theatre and other places. Many movies and dinners out. With his season Dodger seats my telephone would ring and he would simply say "Dodger dogs!" and I sprung into action. The last USC game we attended together was the 52-49 2017 Rose Bowl victory over Penn State. The last few years, after Sue's passing, my visits became moslty at his home spending time with him. Always letting him know "I love you Uncle Doug!" right up to one hour before he passed. - Don Travis, Mtb '57 Nora Brodrick Travis Mtb '60. Patricia Travis Anders & Lori Travis Rake, their husbands Peter & Sammy, who loved Doug & Sue just as much
